Non JUPAS entry to HKU and CUHK medicine
JUPAS is the system local students use to apply to Hong Kong universities with results from the HKDSE, the Hong Kong school leaving exam. Students with the IB, A levels or another school qualification apply outside it, through the non JUPAS route. HKU and CUHK both admit medical students this way.
Summary
- JUPAS stands for the Joint University Programmes Admissions System. One application covers programmes at nine institutions.
- CUHK describes non JUPAS applicants as those not using HKDSE results to apply.
- A local applicant cannot use both routes in the same year. HKU and CUHK each say so.
- Both schools consider only applicants who put medicine first. HKU lists "First Choice Only" among its requirements, and CUHK states the same rule.
Dates for 2027 entry
- CUHK's scheme for local non JUPAS applicants opened on 2 October 2026. Its regular round closes on 7 January 2027 at 11:59pm Hong Kong time.
- CUHK asks medicine applicants to apply by that deadline. After it, an application is considered only if places remain.
- HKU's deadline table still reads "tbc". Its document checklist gives noon on 25 November 2026 for the first round.
Requirements
- HKU publishes the scores it expects in the IB and at A level, and CUHK publishes its own.
- Both schools interview applicants and both have a Chinese language requirement.
- HKU will require the UCAT from non JUPAS applicants for entry in 2028. For entry in 2027 it is optional.
