UCAT
University Clinical Aptitude Test
The UCAT, or University Clinical Aptitude Test, is a computer based admissions test for medicine and dentistry applicants, run by the UCAT Consortium.
Summary
- The UCAT Consortium, a group of UK universities, was established in 2006 and still runs the test.
- Candidates sit the test on a computer at Pearson VUE test centres throughout the UK and internationally.
- Universities use the test to help select applicants for medical and dental degrees.
- The test has four subtests: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement, and the standard test takes just under two hours.
- Abstract Reasoning, a fifth subtest, was withdrawn from 2025.
- Cambridge is one medical school that uses it: its medicine course requires the UCAT.
