BMAT

BioMedical Admissions Test

The BMAT, or BioMedical Admissions Test, was an admissions test used by UK medical schools. It is no longer run, and the UCAT replaced it at the schools that used it.

Updated 19 October 2026 (1 minute read)

Summary

  • Cambridge Assessment ran the BMAT. In 2023 UCAS told school advisers that it would run for one final year.
  • Schools that used the BMAT moved to the UCAT. Cambridge is one example, and its medicine course now requires the UCAT for 2027 entry.
  • Older guides, school pages and forum threads may still mention the BMAT, so check the current test on the university's own course page.
