Summary

  • Patients in England can see their GP record and test results through the NHS App.
  • Education programmes teach people with long term conditions, such as diabetes, to manage them day to day.
  • It supports autonomy, because a choice needs information to be real.
  • Some patients prefer the doctor to decide, and that preference deserves respect too.

Interview questions

  • How can a doctor help a patient with diabetes to manage their own condition?
  • A patient arrives with pages of research from the internet. How do you respond?
  • Should patients be able to see everything written in their medical record?
