eHRSS
eHealth is Hong Kong's electronic health record sharing system, which lets doctors and other registered healthcare providers see a patient's record with the patient's consent.
Summary
- The system, also called eHRSS, launched in March 2016.
- It links the records held by the Department of Health, the Hospital Authority, private hospitals and private clinics.
- Patients register voluntarily. A provider can open a record only after the patient gives that provider permission, called sharing consent.
Interview questions
- How might sharing records between public and private doctors help patients?
- What worries might a patient have about their records being shared between providers?
- Should a doctor be able to see a patient's record without consent in an emergency?
